"I've believed for 80 years and still struggle with doubt—I'm a faith fraud."
How it sounds in your head: After all these decades, I should have unshakeable faith. Instead, I still have questions, still wonder, still doubt. Real believers don't doubt. I'm just going through the motions, a fake after all this time.
"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'"
-- Mark 9:24Religious perfectionism that demands flawless certainty instead of honest relationship, making doubt equal failure.
You've been in church longer than most people live, yet you still have moments of uncertainty. It feels like you should have graduated from doubt by now, but instead it's still there.
Gideon asked God for a sign with the fleece, then doubted and asked for the OPPOSITE sign the next night. God patiently gave him both signs without rebuke. Then God used this doubting man to deliver Israel—his honest uncertainty didn't disqualify him from being a hero of faith listed in Hebrews 11.
I REFUSE the lie that doubt makes me a fraud. IT IS WRITTEN that the man who said 'I believe; help my unbelief' got his son healed IMMEDIATELY. My honest questions don't disqualify me from God's family—they qualify me for His patient fathering. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ, not because of flawless certainty but because of His flawless sacrifice. Even John the Baptist questioned from prison, and Jesus called him the greatest prophet. I reject the demand for perfect faith—I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE, and that connection holds me even when I wobble. My 80 years aren't evidence of failure but of FAITHFULNESS—I'm still here, still connected, still His.
The Father doesn't need you to have flawless certainty—He wants honest relationship. He's running toward you with the same delight He had for Thomas, inviting you to touch His wounds and find rest in His realness, not your performance.
