"I've been hurt too many times. It's safer to just keep people at a distance."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I let someone in, they leave or betray me. I'm done being vulnerable. I'll be friendly, but no one's getting close enough to hurt me again.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
-- Psalm 147:3Trauma from past betrayals building walls that feel like protection but create isolation.
You've been burned by friends who talked behind your back, bailed when things got hard, or chose someone else over you. The pain feels like proof that walls are wisdom.
Betrayed Jesus three times, then hid in shame and went back to fishing. Jesus didn't lecture him or make him earn trust back. He cooked him breakfast, restored him with three affirmations, and gave him his PURPOSE back—IMMEDIATELY.
I REFUSE the lie that walls keep me safe. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus heals the brokenhearted and binds up wounds—He is RESTORING my heart NOW. I am NOT defined by past betrayals. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:7 that my enemies are defeated before me—including the enemy of isolation. The BARAK brings trustworthy, covenant friends who WON'T betray me. I am healed, open, and ready for authentic connection NOW.
The Father doesn't punish you for being hurt by giving you more hurt. He's running toward you with friends who reflect HIS faithfulness—loyal, safe, life-giving. The walls can come down because HE's your protection.
