"I've been faking competence so long that I don't even know who I really am anymore."
How it sounds in your head: You've worn the mask so long it's become your face. You perform what's expected, say what they want to hear, show up as who they need—but underneath? You don't even know what's real about you anymore.
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
-- Psalm 139:13-14Trauma response of performing for acceptance combined with religious teaching that your true self is wicked and must be hidden.
Decades of adapting to expectations—as mother, wife, employee, daughter—have created layers of performance. At midlife when you're supposed to 'know yourself,' you realize you've been everyone else's version of you for so long the core feels lost.
Jesus asked 'Who do you say I am?' Peter answered from his core truth—and Jesus immediately called out Peter's REAL identity: 'You are Peter (rock), and on this rock I'll build My church.' Identity spoken instantly, not earned.
I REFUSE the lie that performance has erased my true self. IT IS WRITTEN that God formed my inward parts and I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Every mask I've worn was a COVERING, not a replacement. My true identity was never in what I did—it was in whose I am. IT IS WRITTEN that I am hidden with Christ in God, and the BLESSING OF ABRAHAM over my life includes supernatural RESTORATION of everything stolen, including my sense of self. I am not lost—I am being FOUND. The Father is uncovering the daughter He created, and she is GLORIOUS.
The Father has been waiting for you to get tired of performing so He can reintroduce you to the woman He made. He's not disappointed by the layers—He's eager to peel them back and show you the masterpiece underneath that's been there all along.
