"I've been binge eating and purging in secret and I'm so disgusted with myself I can't even pray."
How it sounds in your head: You eat until you're sick, then make yourself throw up, and the cycle is spinning out of control. You feel like you're destroying your body, and you can't imagine God wanting to hear from someone who's basically poisoning themselves multiple times a day. You're too ashamed to even lift your head toward heaven.
"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
-- Hebrews 4:15-16Enemy partnering with trauma/control issues to create a shame so deep it blocks access to the very Source of healing and freedom.
You're actively harming the body that's supposed to be the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the physical evidence (damaged teeth, throat pain, weight fluctuations) feels like proof you're beyond help. You've tried to stop dozens of times and keep failing.
She had been bleeding for twelve years, spent all her money on doctors who made her worse, and was religiously unclean (untouchable). She pushed through the crowd in her unclean state, touched Jesus, and was IMMEDIATELY healed—no process, no cleanup period, instant wholeness in one desperate touch.
I REFUSE the lie that my eating disorder makes me too disgusting to approach God. IT IS WRITTEN that I can come BOLDLY to the throne of grace to obtain mercy in my time of need—I don't come after I'm fixed; I come broken to GET fixed. My struggle doesn't block my access to my Father; it qualifies me for His compassion. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation in Christ Jesus, which means even this cycle of binging and purging doesn't separate me from God's love or hearing. The bleeding woman touched Jesus in her unclean state and was healed IMMEDIATELY—I don't wait until I'm clean to reach for Him; I reach for Him to GET clean. I am loved, held, and heard RIGHT NOW.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to stop purging before He'll listen to your prayers—He's listening to the prayers you can't even form, the groans too deep for words. While you're bent over the toilet in shame, He's already running toward you with the healing that will break this cycle, and your mess doesn't make you untouchable; it makes you exactly who He came to save.
