"I've been a difficult, critical woman my whole life and can't change who I've always been."
How it sounds in your head: I know I've been hard to live with. Critical, controlling, negative. My kids probably told their spouses about it. I've been this way for 80 years—you can't teach an old dog new tricks. This is just who I am.
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
-- Ezekiel 36:26Enemy's lie that personality is permanent and transformation is impossible—directly opposes the transforming power of the Gospel.
You've had decades of patterns, and people have likely confirmed this identity ('Mom's just like that'). Change feels impossible when behaviors are measured in decades, not days.
Naomi was so bitter after losing her husband and sons that she renamed herself 'Mara' (bitter), told people 'the Lord has afflicted me.' But God didn't wait for her to fix her attitude—He INSTANTLY transformed her story: gave her Ruth, a grandson (Obed, grandfather of David), put her in the Messianic line, turned bitterness to blessing.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm stuck as the difficult, critical woman I've been. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me a NEW heart and a NEW spirit—not repairs the old, but creates NEW. Like Naomi who renamed herself 'bitter,' God renamed me BELOVED despite my attitudes. My past patterns don't determine my present nature. IT IS WRITTEN: I am being transformed from glory to glory by the Spirit. The BARAK blessing covered murderers and liars—it covers my sharp tongue and critical spirit. I receive the heart of FLESH today, the nature of Christ. Transformation is INSTANT, not gradual.
The Father doesn't see you as the difficult woman everyone tolerated—He sees you as the daughter He's delighted in all along. He's not waiting for you to become pleasant enough to love; He's loving you into transformation RIGHT NOW, no behavior modification required.
