"I've backslidden too many times—God's patience with me has run out."
How it sounds in your head: You promised God you'd stop, and you failed again. That's the third time this week, the twentieth time this month. There's a limit to grace, and you've hit it. God's done giving you chances. He's moved on to people who actually follow through.
"Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
-- Lamentations 3:22-23Source: Religious teaching that treats grace like a limited resource and God like an exasperated parent who eventually gives up.
Your own frustration with yourself feels like proof that God must be even more frustrated. Every youth group message about 'commitment' and 'dying to self' makes you feel like a chronic failure who's exhausting God's goodness.
Peter didn't just backslide once—he denied Jesus THREE TIMES in one night, with cursing and swearing, after three years of walking with Him. Jesus' response? Made him breakfast on the beach, restored him with zero shame or probation period, and gave him the keys to launch the church. Same day restoration.
I REFUSE the lie that grace has a meter that runs out. IT IS WRITTEN that His compassions are NEW every morning—which means this morning's supply of mercy has nothing to do with last night's failure. Where my sin abounded, grace MUCH MORE abounded. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus will NEVER cast out the one who comes to Him—and 'never' doesn't have a footnote that says 'unless you come too many times.' I am not under law but under GRACE, which means my standing is based on HIS nature, not my consistency. The BARAK blessing didn't leave Abraham when he lied the second time—it's COVENANT, not conduct.
The Father doesn't have a 'three strikes' policy—He has a 'seventy times seven' heart. Every morning He wakes up excited about YOU, not keeping a tally, and He's already prepared the fattened calf for the party He's throwing every single time you turn back to Him, even if that's five times before lunch.
