"It's selfish to ask God for financial help at my age."
How it sounds in your head: Other people have real needs—cancer, starving children, disasters. You've had your whole life. Asking for money now is greedy and small-minded. God has bigger things to worry about than your bills.
"Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
-- Matthew 6:31-33Source: religious teaching that God's resources are limited and that financial provision is less spiritual than other needs, contradicting Scripture's revelation of abundant supply.
He's been taught his whole life that asking for money is carnal, that real faith is about spiritual things. At this stage, asking feels like he should be 'above' earthly needs.
Jabez prayed, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory'—a bold, unapologetic ask for MORE. And God granted him what he requested. No rebuke. No 'that's selfish.' Just YES.
I REFUSE the lie that asking God for financial provision is selfish or beneath Him. IT IS WRITTEN that my heavenly Father KNOWS I need these things and promises to ADD them to me. Jesus taught me to pray for daily bread. Jabez asked boldly for MORE and God said YES. IT IS WRITTEN in Ephesians 3:20 that He is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all I ask or think. I am not bothering Him—I am trusting Him. The BARAK blessing is mine, and asking aligns me with the covenant promise that I am blessed in my storehouses and in all I put my hand to.
The Father is delighting in your ask: 'FINALLY you're bringing this to Me instead of carrying it alone. I've been WAITING to show you My supply.' He's not annoyed—He's eager. The Prodigal's Father had the robe ready BEFORE the son came home.
