"I'm too young and immature to be a good father—I still feel like a kid myself."
How it sounds in your head: You're 22 and can barely keep your apartment clean. You still play video games till 2am and eat cereal for dinner. How are you supposed to raise a human being? You don't feel like an adult, let alone a dad. You'll mess this up because you haven't grown up yourself yet.
"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
-- 1 Timothy 4:12World + enemy: Culture extends adolescence indefinitely, then the enemy uses that to disqualify you from the authority God has already given you.
You look around at 'real adults' in their 40s and 50s who seem to have it together, and you feel like you're playing dress-up. The weight of responsibility feels crushing because you're measuring your readiness by your feelings instead of God's assignment.
Josiah became king at age 8 and began seeking God at age 16—still a teenager when he started leading a nation back to righteousness. By 20, he was tearing down idols and reforming an entire country—young, but mighty because GOD was with him.
I REFUSE the lie that my youth disqualifies me from fatherhood. IT IS WRITTEN that no man should despise my youth—I am an example in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith, and purity. My readiness comes from GOD, not from my age or feelings. I am NOT too young; I am RIGHT ON TIME. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in the city and in the field, and that includes my home. The BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath—even in parenting. I parent by God's grace, not by my maturity level.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'grow up first.' He's running toward you NOW, saying 'You're ready because I'M with you—and I've never lost a child yet.' He's giving you the robe and ring while you still smell like the college dorm, because His qualification matters, not yours.
