"I'm too sensitive—real men don't cry or feel things deeply like I do."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I cry or get emotional, I feel like I'm failing at being a guy. Other boys don't cry when things hurt. I feel everything so deeply and it makes me weak. Maybe God messed up making me this way.
"Jesus wept."
-- John 11:35Toxic masculinity lies from culture that equate emotions with weakness, amplified by fathers/coaches who shame boys for feeling.
He's told to 'man up' or 'toughen up' when he shows emotion. Other boys mock crying as 'girly.' He's already learned to hide his tears and feels ashamed when they leak out anyway.
Eight-year-old King Josiah had such a tender heart that when he heard God's Word, he tore his clothes and wept openly. God's response? 'Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the LORD, I have heard you.' His sensitivity didn't disqualify him—it made him the king who brought the greatest revival in Israel's history.
I REFUSE the lie that my sensitivity is weakness. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus wept—the strongest man who ever lived felt deeply and cried openly. My tears are not failure; they are the image of God in me. IT IS WRITTEN that God keeps my tears in a bottle because He VALUES every feeling I have. I am not too much or too soft—I am EXACTLY what the world needs. The BARAK blessing flows through me—I am the head and not the tail, blessed in my emotions, blessed in my tenderness, blessed in my strength to FEEL.
The Father is running to you with the robe and ring, saying, 'Your tender heart is the most COURAGEOUS thing about you—you feel what others are too scared to face.' He's not ashamed of your tears; He's COLLECTING them as treasures.
