"I'm too picky. I need to lower my standards or I'll end up alone."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone says you have a list that's too long. Maybe you're being unrealistic wanting someone who's spiritually mature AND financially stable AND emotionally available. Maybe you should just give that guy another chance.
"Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."
-- Psalm 37:4World + religion pressure - settling normalized as wisdom, destiny degraded to 'good enough.'
You watch friends marry men who aren't their ideal and seem happy. Your mom hints you're too selective. Dating apps make you feel like inventory, and the options feel increasingly limited with each passing year.
Abraham sent his servant 500 miles to find Isaac a wife who met SPECIFIC criteria—godly family, virgin, willing to leave everything. God didn't say 'lower your standards.' He brought Rebekah who EXCEEDED them, and Isaac loved her immediately.
I REFUSE the lie that my God-given desires are too much or that settling is wisdom. IT IS WRITTEN that when I delight in the Lord, He gives me the DESIRES of my heart—not crumbs, not compromise, but DESIRES FULFILLED. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing that brought Rebekah 500 miles to Isaac with camels of gold is MINE by covenant. IT IS WRITTEN in Ephesians 3:20 that God does EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all I ask or think. My standards are not too high; they're an invitation for God to SHOW OFF. I will not settle for Ishmael when God has promised Isaac. The right man at the right time is ALREADY in motion.
Your Father didn't give you those desires to frustrate you—He gave them to you because He's already preparing someone who FULFILLS them. While religion says settle, your Father is saying 'Watch what I do when you trust MY standards over fear's compromise.'
