"I'm not the daughter God hoped I would be. I'm His regret."
How it sounds in your head: When God saved me, He had this vision of who I'd become. I haven't lived up to it. I'm the daughter that didn't turn out like He planned. If He could go back, He might choose differently.
"He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will."
-- Ephesians 1:4-5Source: Enemy accusation combined with religious teaching that positions believers as projects that can succeed or fail, implying God can regret His choices.
She's heard disappointment from adults who had hopes for her. She knows what it feels like to not be what someone expected. Projecting that onto God feels natural, especially when she sees her own failures.
God told Hosea to marry a prostitute who would be unfaithful, then commanded him to buy her back from slavery and love her again. This was the POINT - to show God's love chooses us knowing we'll fail, and He never regrets it. Instant redemption, instant restoration.
I REFUSE the lie that I am God's regret. IT IS WRITTEN that He chose me before the foundation of the world according to the GOOD PLEASURE of His will. I am not His disappointment - I am His JOY. He knew every failure before He chose me and chose me ANYWAY. IT IS WRITTEN that I am predestined to adoption. Hosea bought back his unfaithful wife because that's what love does. God doesn't regret me. He DELIGHTS in me. I am exactly the daughter He wanted.
While you think you're His regret, the Father is celebrating that He chose you before time began, knowing everything, and He'd choose you again. You're not the daughter who didn't turn out - you're the daughter He always wanted.
