"I'm not mature enough—I'm still just a kid trying to play adult."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone expects me to have it together now, but inside I still feel like a kid. I'm supposed to make life-altering decisions about college, career, relationships, but I barely know who I am. Other people seem so much more mature and put-together. I'm faking adulthood and everyone can tell.
"Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity."
-- 1 Timothy 4:12Cultural arbitrary markers of 'maturity' creating shame around normal developmental process; enemy using transition as condemnation rather than growth.
He's in the awkward in-between—not a kid anymore, not fully adult yet. He feels the weight of expectations but lacks the experience to meet them. He's comparing his internal chaos to everyone else's external composure.
Josiah became KING at age 8 and 'did what was right in the sight of the Lord' as a CHILD. At 16 he began to seek God, at 20 he led the greatest national reformation in Israel's history—all while still a teenager and young adult.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too young or immature to walk in my calling. IT IS WRITTEN that no one should despise my youth—I can be an example in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith, and purity RIGHT NOW. God told Jeremiah not to call himself a youth as an excuse, because God goes with those He sends. IT IS WRITTEN that if I lack wisdom, I ask God who gives liberally without finding fault. Josiah was 8 years old and led a nation into righteousness as a child. I don't need more years—I need more CONNECTION to the Vine. I am blessed with the BARAK—the Lord's favor and wisdom rest on me now, not someday when I'm 'ready.'
The Father isn't waiting for you to reach some magical age of maturity—He's ready to use you RIGHT NOW, just like He used Josiah at 8 and David as a teenage shepherd. The prodigal was immature, made terrible decisions, yet the Father restored him INSTANTLY to full sonship.
