"I'm losing my mind—I can't even remember who I was or who they are."
How it sounds in your head: The names escape me. The memories blur. Sometimes I don't know where I am. I'm disappearing from the inside out. Even my mind has betrayed me. I'm losing myself completely.
"If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."
-- 2 Timothy 2:13Curse of the fall—mental decline, but NOT God's will or a punishment for sin.
Dementia, memory loss, confusion are real physical experiences. She forgets her children's names, loses chunks of her life story, feels her identity slipping away daily.
The thief was dying, possibly delirious from pain and blood loss, had no theological education, no time to memorize Scripture or 'get his mind right.' Jesus gave him INSTANT Paradise—salvation didn't require mental clarity, just a moment of recognition.
I REFUSE the lie that losing my memory means losing my identity or God's faithfulness to me. IT IS WRITTEN that if I am faithless, He remains FAITHFUL—He cannot deny Himself. My identity is not IN my mind; it's IN CHRIST, and what He says about me doesn't change when my memory fails. IT IS WRITTEN that nothing can separate me from the love of God—not height, depth, or MENTAL DECLINE. I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the BARAK, and God's covenant with me isn't based on my cognitive ability. I am HELD, SECURE, and KNOWN by God even when I don't know myself. HE REMEMBERS ME, and that's all that matters.
The Father doesn't love you less when your mind fails—He holds you CLOSER, like a parent with a confused child, whispering 'I know who you are even when you don't, and I'm not letting go.' Your identity has NEVER been in your memory; it's been in HIS, and He forgets NOTHING about you.
