"I'm a waste of potential and everyone's investment in me"
How it sounds in your head: My parents paid for college and I'm working retail. My youth pastor believed in me and I'm barely going to church. People saw something in me that I've completely failed to deliver on. Every scholarship, every opportunity, every 'you have so much potential'—I've wasted all of it.
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."
-- Philippians 1:6Performance-based identity and fear of man, rooted in religious expectations and conditional approval systems that measure worth by visible success.
The gap between who people thought he'd become and who he actually is feels like fraud. Every conversation with people who knew him 'when' feels like apologizing for existing.
Jesus invested three years in Peter, who then DENIED HIM THREE TIMES at the crucifixion, cursing and swearing he never knew Jesus. Jesus' response after resurrection? Instant restoration, no probation period, and assignment to 'feed my sheep'—leadership restored immediately despite epic failure.
I REFUSE the lie that I've wasted my potential. IT IS WRITTEN that He who began a good work in me WILL COMPLETE IT. My development is God's responsibility, not my performance. IT IS WRITTEN that the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable—He doesn't withdraw them when I stumble. Peter DENIED Jesus three times and was INSTANTLY restored to leadership. I am not defined by gaps between expectation and current reality. I am a son in process, and the Father doesn't abandon works He starts. My timeline is HIS timeline, and His timing is PERFECT.
When Peter failed spectacularly, Jesus didn't create a restoration program—He made breakfast and reinstated him on the spot. The Father doesn't measure you by human timelines or expectations; He's writing a story only He can see the ending to.
