"I'm a burden on my children financially and it's my fault."
How it sounds in your head: They have to help me pay bills. They worry about my care. I'm draining their resources when I should be blessing them. I'm supposed to leave them an inheritance, not be their expense. I failed as a mother.
"I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread."
-- Psalm 37:25Shame spirit combining performance-based parenting with financial guilt and burden identity that denies covenant blessing.
Her children are genuinely helping her financially. She sees their sacrifices and feels responsible. Culture says parents should leave wealth, not need help.
God sent Elijah TO a poor widow to be sustained BY her. She was the provision channel, not the burden. Her giving to him triggered her miracle—jar and jug never ran dry. What looked like burden was actually her breakthrough setup.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm a burden. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous are not forsaken even in OLD AGE. My children's provision toward me is not my failure—it's God's faithfulness flowing through them. IT IS WRITTEN that He who gave His Son will freely give ALL THINGS. I am not a drain—I am the BLESSED of the Lord and the BARAK blessing flows TO me and THROUGH me to them. Their giving toward me may be the very setup for their breakthrough—like the widow who fed Elijah and got perpetual supply. I refuse shame. I receive provision. I am loved, not a liability.
Your Father sees your children caring for you and smiles—this is His design, His provision, His love flowing through family. You're not robbing them; you're giving them the honor of partnering with His care for you.
