"I'll sleep when everything is perfect and under control."
How it sounds in your head: How can I rest when there's so much to worry about - grades, friendships, what people think of me, my future? Sleeping feels irresponsible when there are problems I haven't solved yet. I need to figure everything out first, then I can rest.
"I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."
-- Psalm 4:8Enemy wants control obsession to prevent rest; religion says peace comes after perfect performance.
Your responsibilities and worries are real, and lying down while problems exist feels reckless. Your mind convinces you that staying anxious equals staying responsible.
Peter was in PRISON, chained between two soldiers, scheduled for EXECUTION the next morning - and he was sleeping so soundly that an angel had to strike him to wake him up. Worst circumstances imaginable, yet DEEP SLEEP because his trust was in God, not his situation.
I REFUSE the lie that control precedes rest. IT IS WRITTEN that I lie down in peace because HE ALONE makes me safe - not my perfect management of problems. I am not responsible to fix everything before I sleep - I am a branch abiding in the Vine, and He handles what I cannot. The BARAK blessing that protected Abraham through famines and wars protects me while I sleep. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 6:34 that tomorrow will worry about itself - anxiety doesn't make me responsible, it makes me exhausted. I receive peace NOW, not after everything is perfect. Rest is trusting the Father is working while I sleep, just like Peter slept before his execution because God was in control.
The Father isn't waiting for you to solve everything - He's running toward you with peace while your life is still messy. Like the prodigal received the party before he earned anything back, you receive rest before you fix anything - it's about the Father's control, not yours.
