"I'll never be a good dad because I don't have a good example to follow from my own father."
How it sounds in your head: You see other guys with their dads at games, fishing trips, getting advice. You got nothing. How are you supposed to know what to do when you become a dad? You're starting from zero, and that handicap will show up in your kids. The cycle continues.
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up."
-- Psalm 27:10Enemy + trauma: Using your father's failures to disqualify your future and make you believe you're predetermined to repeat patterns.
You literally don't have a mental blueprint for healthy fatherhood—no memories to draw from, no voice in your head saying 'this is how it's done.' Every friend who casually mentions their dad helping them feels like a reminder of what you're missing and what you can't give.
Timothy had no believing father mentioned—his faith came from his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. Yet Paul calls him his 'true son in the faith' and he became a pastor of Ephesus, leading thousands—no godly father, but a GOD who fathers.
I REFUSE the lie that my father's absence disqualifies my future fatherhood. IT IS WRITTEN that when my father forsook me, the LORD took me up. My heavenly Father is teaching me RIGHT NOW—through His Word, His Spirit, His presence. I am not starting from zero; I am starting from THE THRONE. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, and that blessing covers my parenting. I am the head and not the tail in my family line. The BARAK blessing of Abraham is mine by covenant, not by having a good example. I parent from OVERFLOW, not from lack.
The Father is running toward you right now with the ring of authority, the robe of identity, and He's whispering, 'YOU are My beloved son—watch ME and do what I do.' He's been preparing you through HIS fathering of you, and it's better than any earthly example could ever be.
