"I'll have to work forever because I can't trust my future finances."
How it sounds in your head: You see your parents working into their 60s and 70s, stressed and tired. You hear stories of people who thought they had enough but ran out of money. The idea of actually resting in old age seems like a fantasy for the wealthy, not regular people like you. Work until you die feels like the only realistic plan.
"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His."
-- Hebrews 4:9-10Curse of toil from fall rather than Sabbath rest promised in covenant.
Statistically, more people are working past traditional retirement age, and you've witnessed exhausted older adults unable to stop working. The gig economy and cost of living make lifelong work seem inevitable.
Abraham died 'in a good old age, an old man and full of years' after living in abundance and rest. His final years weren't spent scrambling for provision—he died satisfied, wealthy, and at peace because covenant blessing provided complete security without endless toil.
I REFUSE the lie that I'll work until I die with no rest. IT IS WRITTEN that there remains a REST for the people of God, and I AM God's person. My life is not cursed to endless toil—I am blessed to enter rest just as God rested from His works. The BARAK blessing includes ceasing from my labors and living in provision without striving. IT IS WRITTEN that I will cease from my works and enter God's rest. Like Abraham who died old, full of years, and satisfied, I will experience decades of rest and abundance because covenant provision doesn't require lifelong grinding. I will retire in peace and live in overflow.
The Father isn't sentencing you to lifelong labor like a cruel taskmaster—He's preparing rest for you as a covenant promise built into creation itself. Like Abraham who died old, satisfied, and wealthy after decades of rest, God is planning your Sabbath season where provision flows without striving.
