"I'll die without anyone truly knowing the woman I actually was beneath all the roles."
How it sounds in your head: I've been mother, wife, employee, church volunteer, caregiver. I've worn so many hats for so many decades that I don't know if anyone ever saw ME underneath it all. Now those roles are ending or over, and I realize I might leave this earth without anyone knowing who I actually was when I wasn't performing a function. That's the loneliest thought of all.
"O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off."
-- Psalm 139:1-2Enemy using lifetime of role-based identity to whisper that service erased personhood and time has run out for being seen as individual rather than function.
Decades of being valued for what she DID rather than who she IS have created legitimate grief about unseen personhood. The cultural tendency to define women by roles rather than identity has left her wondering if she was ever known beyond her utility.
A servant, a surrogate, used for function and discarded, she fled to the wilderness invisible and alone. God met her there, and she named Him 'El Roi'—the God who SEES me—because in her moment of greatest invisibility, she was MOST seen by the One who mattered most.
I REFUSE the lie that I will die unknown beneath my roles. IT IS WRITTEN that God has searched me and KNOWN me—every thought, every hidden part, every aspect beneath the functions has been FULLY SEEN every moment of my life. I am NOT the sum of my service but the daughter of a Father who knows my sitting and rising. He calls me by NAME, not by role. IT IS WRITTEN that the very hairs of my head are numbered, and if He knows that detail, He knows EVERYTHING beneath the hats I've worn. Right now, I receive the truth that I am KNOWN—fully, deeply, eternally—and He's bringing people who will see the woman He's always seen.
The Father isn't grieving that you were unseen—He's running toward you with the reality that YOU have been His focus every single day beneath every role, and like Hagar, the revelation of being SEEN by the God who matters most changes everything. The connections He's bringing now will celebrate the woman you've always been, not just the functions you performed.
