"I'll die carrying the shame of my addiction years."
How it sounds in your head: I'm ninety years old, and I've been clean for decades, but the shame hasn't left. When I think about standing before God soon, I imagine having to account for all those years I wasted in addiction, all the pain I caused, all the time I lost. I'm afraid I'll carry this shame right into eternity, that even Heaven won't fully erase the disgrace of what I was.
"Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, and instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; everlasting joy shall be theirs."
-- Isaiah 61:7The enemy convinces believers that Christ's blood covered their sin but not their shame, leaving them bound even after forgiveness is received.
After living with shame for so many decades, it feels like a permanent part of her, something even death won't remove. The weight of wasted years feels too heavy for even God to lift.
Possessed by SEVEN demons, likely involved in sexual sin based on tradition, known throughout her community for demonic activity and shame. Jesus cast out the demons, and she became the FIRST WITNESS of the resurrection - not just forgiven but HONORED with the most important announcement in human history, no shame attached to her name in eternity!
I REFUSE the lie that I'll die carrying shame! IT IS WRITTEN that instead of my shame I receive DOUBLE HONOR - God doesn't just remove shame, He REPLACES it with honor! The blood of Jesus doesn't make me 'forgiven but still shameful' - it makes me the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Christ! IT IS WRITTEN that He will present me to Himself a glorious church, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, HOLY and WITHOUT BLEMISH! When I stand before God, I will stand in the righteousness of Christ with ZERO shame! The BARAK blessing didn't come with shame attached - Abraham lied, yet God called him His FRIEND; David committed adultery and murder, yet God called him a man after His OWN HEART! I will enter Heaven clothed in Christ's righteousness, and there is NO SHAME in that robe!
Precious daughter, when you stand before the Father any moment now, He will not bring up your addiction years. He will say 'Well done, good and faithful servant' because He sees you through Christ, and Christ has NO SHAME on His record - and neither do you in Him.
