"If I'm struggling financially, it means I'm not in God's will."

How it sounds in your head: Everyone says 'if you're in God's will, He'll provide.' I'm broke, stressed about money, so obviously I'm missing His plan. Maybe I chose the wrong school, wrong path, wrong decisions. Financial struggle equals spiritual failure.

2 Corinthians 8:9

"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."

-- 2 Corinthians 8:9
Enemy whispers: Financial struggle means you're out of God's will. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: 2 Corinthians 8:9 - 'Though He was RICH, yet for your sakes He became POOR, that you through His poverty might become RICH.' JESUS had financial struggle—no place to lay His head, borrowed a boat, rode a borrowed donkey. Was HE out of God's will? Elijah was fed by ravens in a drought—broke, but EXACTLY in God's will. IT IS WRITTEN your struggle is NOT proof of God's absence; sometimes it's proof you're in a BATTLE the enemy doesn't want you to win.
Quick Truth: LIE: Broke means out of God's will. TRUTH: Jesus became poor IN God's will (2 Cor 8:9); Elijah fed by ravens (1 Ki 17).

Source: Prosperity gospel twisted to make financial struggle proof of being outside God's will instead of recognizing spiritual warfare and world systems.

Why this feels true:

The people who seem 'blessed' have money flowing. If I'm struggling, something must be off spiritually. Deuteronomy 28 says blessed people lend and don't borrow—I'm borrowing, so I must be under a curse or out of His will.

1 Kings 17:2-6
Elijah

God sent Elijah to a brook during a drought and had RAVENS bring him food daily. Elijah was completely dependent, seemingly broke, eating bird-delivered meals—yet he was EXACTLY in God's will, right where he was supposed to be.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that financial struggle means I'm out of God's will. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus became POOR so I could become RICH—He had financial pressure and was perfectly in the Father's plan. Elijah ate raven-delivered food during a drought and was exactly where God wanted him. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:37 I am MORE than a conqueror through Him who loved me—conquering means there's a BATTLE, not smooth sailing. The barak blessing is mine through Galatians 3:13-14 regardless of current circumstances. I am blessed coming in and going out even when the bank account doesn't show it yet, because covenant trumps circumstances.

But God actually:

Your Father didn't abandon you because money's tight—Jesus Himself had nowhere to lay His head and was perfectly in God's will. Elijah ate bird food in a drought right where God wanted him. Financial pressure isn't proof you're lost; sometimes it's proof you're RIGHT where the enemy doesn't want you.
