"If I'm still sick after prayer, I must have unconfessed sin blocking my healing."
How it sounds in your head: They prayed for me at church and I'm still using my EpiPen and medications. Maybe there's some sin I haven't confessed that's keeping God from healing me. I must be doing something wrong spiritually if the prayers didn't work.
"And His disciples asked Him, saying, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.'"
-- John 9:2-3Twisted Job's-friends theology that assumes ongoing sickness equals hidden sin, making the sick person both patient and accused criminal.
When prayers don't result in instant healing, he searches for explanations and turns inward to find fault. Religious teaching about 'unconfessed sin' provides a ready scapegoat for unanswered healing prayers.
Disciples assumed the blind man's condition was caused by someone's sin. Jesus completely rejected this assumption, declaring the man's blindness had NOTHING to do with sin - not his, not his parents' - but existed so God's works could be displayed in him.
I REFUSE the lie that my continued illness means hidden sin! IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus declared the blind man's condition had NOTHING to do with sin - neither his nor his parents'! My medical needs aren't divine punishment or evidence of spiritual blockage. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus - NONE! The BARAK blessing doesn't wait for perfect confession; it flowed over liars, deceivers, and murderers in the Old Covenant, how much MORE over me in Christ's blood! I am fully forgiven, fully loved, and fully provided for - medication and all!
Your Father isn't playing hide-and-seek with your healing, waiting for you to find the secret sin that unlocks it. He's the Father who ran to the prodigal while he STILL smelled like pigs - no confession required before the embrace, robe, ring, and party. You're already fully forgiven through Jesus' blood.
