"If I'd been more vigilant about our accounts, this betrayal wouldn't have happened."
How it sounds in your head: You got lazy. Too trusting. You should have been checking statements, monitoring spending, asking questions. A real man protects his family, and you failed. This is on you.
"Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain."
-- Psalm 127:1Religious spirit assigning blame through false responsibility and performance pressure.
You literally didn't check the accounts, didn't notice the patterns, didn't ask the hard questions. If you'd been more engaged, you would have caught it earlier and prevented the damage.
During the most important covenant in human history, God put Abraham into DEEP SLEEP and cut the covenant ALONE, walking between the pieces as a smoking oven and burning torch. Abraham contributed NOTHING—God protected the covenant by Himself.
I REFUSE the lie that my vigilance protects my family. IT IS WRITTEN that unless the Lord guards, I watch in vain—my Father is the security system, not my scrutiny. I am not Atlas holding up the financial world; I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE. Abraham SLEPT during covenant-cutting because the blessing never depended on his wakefulness. IT IS WRITTEN: He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. My job is ABIDING, not monitoring. The BARAK flows through rest, not striving. I release the burden of being my family's savior.
Your Father isn't disappointed in your lack of vigilance—He's grieved that you think His protection requires your performance. While you're beating yourself up for not watching closely enough, He's reminding you that HE NEVER SLEEPS and has been guarding what matters all along.
