"If I were really Spirit-filled, I wouldn't struggle with this demonic oppression."
How it sounds in your head: Spirit-filled believers are supposed to have victory, power, freedom. But I still feel oppressed, still struggle with dark thoughts. Maybe I lost the Spirit's filling. Maybe I need to be re-baptized in the Spirit. Maybe I'm not really filled at all.
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
-- Ephesians 6:12Source: religious teaching that equates Spirit-filling with constant emotional victory, creating shame around normal spiritual warfare fluctuations.
She's seen other believers testify about constant victory and freedom, making her ongoing struggles feel like evidence of spiritual inadequacy or lost filling rather than normal warfare.
Paul, the most Spirit-filled apostle, had a 'messenger of Satan' sent to buffet him. God didn't remove it, didn't question Paul's filling, just said 'My grace is sufficient.' Spirit-filled and attacked can coexist - it's called warfare, not failure.
I REFUSE the lie that Spirit-filled believers don't face demonic oppression. IT IS WRITTEN that WE wrestle against principalities and powers - 'we' meaning believers in spiritual battle. Being attacked doesn't prove I'm empty; it proves I'm FILLED and therefore a threat. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in me. IT IS WRITTEN that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I am not losing my filling - I am USING my filling to fight, and the enemy's attacks prove I'm winning.
The Father isn't questioning your Spirit-filling because you're under attack - He's confirming it, because darkness doesn't waste arrows on empty vessels. He's running toward you with the truth that struggle proves you're dangerous, filled, and worth fighting, and His grace is sufficient for every battle.
