"If I told a trusted adult about this, they'd be forced to tell everyone"
How it sounds in your head: You think about talking to your youth pastor or a counselor, but you're terrified that the moment you say it out loud, they'll be legally required to tell your parents, the church, maybe even the police. You imagine your secret becoming public knowledge and it paralyzes you into silence.
"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
-- Proverbs 11:14Source: enemy's tactic of using fear of mandatory reporting and gossip to keep you isolated - isolation keeps shame alive and prevents the healing that comes through safe relationships.
You've heard about mandatory reporting laws and you've seen how quickly gossip spreads in church circles. You don't know who's actually safe, so it feels easier to trust no one than risk the wrong person finding out.
Paul (then Saul) had just been murdering Christians, and God sent him to Ananias for help. Ananias was scared - this guy was DANGEROUS. But God told him 'Go,' and Ananias didn't expose Saul to the authorities or the church he'd been terrorizing. He became a SAFE PERSON who prayed for Saul, and instantly, Saul's healing and calling began. Safe people exist even for dangerous secrets.
I REFUSE the lie that seeking help means losing all control of my story. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 11:14 that there is SAFETY in the multitude of counselors - God has placed safe people in my life who can handle my story with wisdom and confidentiality. My secret is not too big for safe confession. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 6:2 - 'Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.' I was designed to have burden-bearers, not to collapse under the weight alone. The enemy wants me isolated; the Father wants me surrounded by safe love. I will ask God to show me WHO is safe, and I will trust Him to guide me to healing through relationship.
The Father isn't trying to force your story into the open before you're ready - He's gently inviting you to let ONE SAFE PERSON into that room with you so you don't have to carry the weight alone. He has people in your life who can hold your story with care, who won't gossip or expose you, but will walk with you toward healing.
