"If I pray for financial help, I'm being selfish and materialistic."
How it sounds in your head: Money seems shallow compared to spiritual things. Maybe I should just pray for character and patience instead. Asking for money feels greedy, like I care more about stuff than God.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religion: Gnostic teaching that spiritual things are holy and material things are worldly.
Preachers emphasize seeking God's kingdom first and not loving money, which gets twisted into feeling wrong to ask for provision. Spirituality gets falsely separated from physical needs.
Asked God for wisdom, not wealth. God said 'Because you didn't ask for riches, I'm giving you WISDOM AND RICHES' - unprecedented wealth that made him richest king ever. God LOVES giving material blessings.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for financial help is selfish. IT IS WRITTEN that the apostle prayed I would PROSPER IN ALL THINGS - including finances. God isn't anti-material; He's GENEROUS. IT IS WRITTEN that the BLESSING of Abraham includes being ABOVE ONLY and not beneath, LENDER and not borrower. The Father LOVES giving good gifts to His children - that INCLUDES money. Asking Him for provision isn't greed; it's childlike trust. I receive financial abundance without guilt or shame. The BARAK blessing covers STOREHOUSES, fields, and finances - all material, all BLESSED.
The Father doesn't roll His eyes when you ask for financial help - He DELIGHTS in prospering His kids. He gave Solomon BOTH wisdom AND wealth because He's a GENEROUS Father who loves giving.
