Your protective instinct for your kids is real and good. Culture has taught you that forgiveness equals approval, and that consequences must be enforced or behavior continues. It feels irresponsible to forgive 'too easily.'
Religious leaders dragged her before Jesus demanding stoning (the 'consequence' for her sin). Jesus said, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.' No punishment. No probation. INSTANT FORGIVENESS - and THAT is what changed her, not threats.
I REFUSE the lie that forgiveness enables sin. IT IS WRITTEN that the GOODNESS of God leads to repentance - my kids need to see grace that reflects the Father's heart, not religion's scorekeeping. The prodigal got the best robe and a party with ZERO consequences, and that scandalous grace is what transforms. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in my family as part of the BARAK covenant - the blessing of Abraham RESTORES what was lost and TEACHES the next generation about God's nature through my response. The Father is empowering me to forgive instantly like He does. I release them like Christ released me.
The Father is whispering, 'I forgave you instantly while you were still a sinner - THAT is what changed you, not fear of consequences.' He's clothing you with the robe of My-grace-flowing-through-you, the ring of authority to release debts as yours was released, and He's teaching your kids about Heaven's economy through your scandalous mercy.
