"If I can't trust the church, I can't trust the faith it taught me."
How it sounds in your head: Abuse scandals, cover-ups, hypocrisy, the damage done in Jesus' name - if the institution got it this wrong, maybe the message is wrong too. How do I separate Jesus from the wreckage of His bride?
"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his."
-- 2 Timothy 2:19Enemy + institutional failure: Satan uses church wounds to poison the well, making Christ guilty by association with His broken followers.
She's witnessed or experienced church abuse, financial scandal, sexual misconduct, or systemic cover-ups, and the enemy says if the messengers were corrupt, the message must be too. The pain is real and the disillusionment profound.
Saul was God's anointed king who became murderous, paranoid, and consulted mediums - total leadership failure. David had every reason to reject the entire system, yet he refused to touch 'the LORD's anointed' and still trusted God despite corrupt leadership. He separated God's faithfulness from Saul's failure.
I REFUSE the lie that institutional failure invalidates the gospel. IT IS WRITTEN that the foundation of God stands sure, regardless of how broken the builders are. The church is made of wounded, failing humans - that doesn't surprise God or undo Christ's finished work. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus builds His church, not denominations or boards or committees. Their corruption doesn't touch His purity. I can grieve the wreckage, demand accountability, AND trust the God who never abused His power. Jesus isn't guilty because His followers are.
The Father isn't defensive about church failures - He's the most grieved by them, and He's been cleaning house while you've been wounded. His heart is WITH the abused, not the abusers, and He's not asking you to defend the indefensible.
