"If I ask to hang out, I'll just be a burden or they'll say no."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone else seems to just naturally end up together, but I'd have to actually ask, and that feels desperate. What if they say they're busy? What if they say yes but don't really want to? I'd rather not risk the rejection or be the annoying kid who has to beg for friends.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
-- 2 Timothy 1:7Enemy fear tactic using potential rejection as a prison, teaching that reaching out is weakness rather than strength.
He's imagined the scenario a hundred times: asking and getting a hesitant 'maybe' or seeing them make plans with someone else the next day. The fear of confirmation that he's unwanted feels worse than staying lonely.
Blind beggar on the side of the road. Crowd told him to BE QUIET, tried to shut him down. He shouted LOUDER. Jesus stopped, called him over, and healed him IMMEDIATELY. His boldness in the face of 'shut up' brought instant breakthrough.
I REFUSE the lie that reaching out makes me a burden! IT IS WRITTEN that God has not given me a spirit of FEAR but of POWER, LOVE, and a SOUND MIND! I have divine boldness to initiate connection. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 4:13 that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me—including asking to hang out! The BARAK blessing means I carry FAVOR, not burden. Like Bartimaeus who shouted LOUDER when told to be quiet, I move forward in boldness. The right people will say YES. I initiate with confidence NOW!
The Father didn't wait for you to clean up before inviting you to the table—He sent Jesus to SEEK AND SAVE while you were still lost. He modeled reaching out FIRST, and He's given you that same boldness.
