"I wasted my potential and missed God's plan, and now I'm disqualified from my calling."
How it sounds in your head: I can feel it—there was a path I was supposed to take and I missed it. Wrong major, wrong internship, wrong choices in college. I had a calling once but I screwed it up with bad decisions and now I'm off-script. God had a Plan A for my life and I'm living in Plan B, the backup plan for people who blew their first chance. I'm disqualified.
"For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable."
-- Romans 11:29Source: Religious teaching about 'God's perfect will' versus 'permissive will' that creates paralyzing fear of missing divine timing.
He can identify specific decision points where he chose wrong, and the current unemployment feels like the consequence of those choices compounding. Other people seem to be 'in their calling' and thriving, which proves there WAS a right path he's no longer on.
John Mark ABANDONED Paul's missionary team mid-journey, creating such a rift that Paul refused to take him again. Years later, Paul wrote 'bring Mark, for he is USEFUL to me'—complete restoration and validation of calling despite catastrophic early failure.
I REFUSE the lie that I missed my calling or disqualified myself through wrong choices. IT IS WRITTEN that the gifts and calling of God are IRREVOCABLE—not 'revocable when you mess up' but PERMANENT because they're based on HIS faithfulness, not mine. Every wrong turn, every missed opportunity, every bad decision has been REDEEMED by the blood of Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that ALL things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to HIS purpose—not 'all things except your mistakes.' ALL things. Moses murdered and led millions. Peter denied and led the Church. Paul killed Christians and wrote Scripture. I am NOT disqualified—I am REPOSITIONED, and the Father is weaving even my detours into the tapestry of His perfect plan.
The Father doesn't have a Plan B for people who messed up Plan A. He has one GLORIOUS plan, and He's SO GOOD at being God that He weaves your 'mistakes' into it and makes them look INTENTIONAL.
