"I survived when a better baby would have—I'm the wrong one alive."
How it sounds in your head: Mother lost babies before me, or after me. The one she really wanted didn't make it. I'm the consolation prize, the survivor but not the desired one. I've lived in the shadow of the ghost baby my whole life.
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb."
-- Psalm 139:13Comparison curse and survivor's guilt, reinforced by parental grief that elevated lost child above living one.
Parents' unprocessed grief created shrine to lost baby while she stood right there. She felt secondary to a ghost, especially if named after deceased sibling or heard 'your sister/brother would have been...' comparisons.
Born AFTER Abel's murder and Cain's exile—literally the 'replacement' son after devastating loss. Eve said 'God has appointed me another seed INSTEAD of Abel.' Despite being named 'substitute,' Seth became the Messianic line—from him came Noah, Abraham, David, JESUS. The 'replacement' carried the promise.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm the wrong one alive or second choice. IT IS WRITTEN that God formed MY inward parts and covered ME in my mother's womb. I am not replacement, consolation, or substitute—I am ORIGINAL, intentional, specifically created. IT IS WRITTEN that God's works are wonderful, and I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Like Seth, even if labeled 'instead of,' I carry divine purpose and promise. The BARAK blessing is on MY life, MY days, MY story. I declare eighty-plus years of being exactly the right person alive.
Your Father is running toward you with tears, saying, 'YOU are not second place—you are IRREPLACEABLE. I chose YOUR fingerprints, YOUR laugh, YOUR story. There is no better version—you are MY beloved, MY delight, MY perfect choice.'
