"I spent years in the wrong relationship instead of finding the right one"
How it sounds in your head: I gave my best years to someone who wasn't the one. My friends who dated intentionally are getting married while I'm starting over. Those years of emotional investment are just gone and I'm damaged goods now.
"Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore."
-- Isaiah 54:4Enemy accusation that relational history diminishes value and romantic timelines are linear with no redemption
He gave years to someone he thought was forever and it ended. He sees couples who dated shorter and married sooner, seemingly doing it 'right' while he wasted time.
Hosea's wife Gomer spent YEARS in adultery with other men. God told Hosea to buy her back and restore her IMMEDIATELY—no probation, no proving herself. Instant covenant restoration after years of betrayal.
I REFUSE the lie that years in a wrong relationship stole my future or made me damaged goods. IT IS WRITTEN: I will FORGET the shame of those years and not remember the reproach. God doesn't give me a penalty timeline for relational mistakes. The BARAK blessing isn't reduced by my romantic history. IT IS WRITTEN: if anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW CREATION—old things PASSED AWAY, all things BECAME NEW. Not 'becoming new gradually.' BECAME. Past tense. Done. The right relationship isn't delayed by the wrong one. The Father has already prepared what's coming and it's not diminished by what I went through.
The Father doesn't see you as damaged goods starting over—He sees you as the Prodigal whose party is READY, and the bride He's preparing for you isn't lesser because of your history. The ring, robe, and sandals don't come used.
