"I shouldn't want wealth; I should want just enough for needs and contentment."
How it sounds in your head: Wanting abundance feels greedy. Godly people are content with little. If I desire wealth, I'm being materialistic and my heart is in the wrong place.
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy."
-- 1 Timothy 6:17Religious poverty spirit misusing Paul's contentment verses to deny covenant promises.
Philippians 4:11-12 talks about contentment, and Jesus warned about loving money. Wanting wealth feels spiritually dangerous and selfish.
Solomon asked for wisdom, not wealth. God gave him wisdom AND said, 'I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you.' God ADDED extravagant wealth because He WANTED to bless him.
I REFUSE the lie that desiring wealth means my heart is wrong. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me RICHLY all things to ENJOY - not barely enough to scrape by. Contentment doesn't mean poverty; it means peace in every season. IT IS WRITTEN that God will grant me ABUNDANT prosperity. The BARAK blessing isn't 'just enough' - it's being the head, not the tail; above only, not beneath. I receive extravagant abundance because that's how covenant works, and my Father loves giving good gifts.
Your Father isn't nervous about you enjoying wealth. He GIVES richly all things TO ENJOY - He actually wants you delighting in His abundance, not white-knuckling through 'just enough' to prove you're spiritual.
