"I should have kept working instead of trusting him with our finances during retirement."
How it sounds in your head: I retired at 65 like we planned. He said he'd handle the investments, the budgeting, the planning. I trusted him and focused on grandkids and hobbies. Now I find out he made terrible decisions and we're in trouble. I should have stayed working, stayed involved, stayed vigilant. My independence is gone and it's my fault for trusting too much. Ten years of leisure while the ship was sinking.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Enemy plants regret about past trust and suggests that rest was irresponsible and that you should have carried burdens that weren't yours.
The financial decline objectively happened during the retirement years when she stepped back from financial oversight, and continued employment would have actually provided income buffer. The counterfactual seems obvious.
Martha was 'distracted with much SERVING' and complained that Mary just SAT at Jesus' feet doing 'nothing productive' while Martha carried all the work burden. Jesus defended Mary, saying she chose the 'GOOD part' and it would not be taken from her. Sitting was better than striving; presence was better than productivity. Mary wasn't irresponsible; she was wise.
I REFUSE the lie that retirement trust was irresponsible or that I should have kept carrying financial burdens instead of resting. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus gives REST to the weary and that His beloved receive SLEEP—rest is not irresponsibility but invitation. Striving is vanity; His provision flows from HIS NATURE, not my vigilance. IT IS WRITTEN that Mary chose the good part by sitting while Martha carried all burdens, and Jesus defended her rest. I will not regret trust or punish myself for seasons of rest. The BARAK blessed Isaac 100-FOLD when he STAYED PUT during famine instead of striving. My provision comes from covenant, not constant oversight. I declare peace over past decisions and instant breakthrough NOW.
Your Father isn't shaking His head at your retirement years, wishing you'd stayed in the workforce carrying burdens. He's the One who INVITED you to rest, who gives His beloved SLEEP, who defended Mary for sitting while Martha carried everything. He doesn't measure provision by your vigilance; He provides because it's HIS NATURE. The prodigal's father didn't require the son to 'work his way back'—he gave RING, ROBE, and threw a PARTY because restoration is instant when you turn toward home.
