"I should have invested my time and resources more wisely when I had them."
How it sounds in your head: If you'd been smarter with money at 40, you wouldn't be worried now at 85. If you'd invested in relationships instead of career, you wouldn't be so alone. You had resources—time, energy, money, opportunities—and you squandered them. That's on you.
"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
-- Matthew 6:26Dave Ramsey-style religion that makes financial peace dependent on YOUR wisdom rather than God's provision, stealing rest and replacing grace with regret.
He sees what compound interest COULD have done over 40 years. He knows the time he could have spent with grandkids that's gone. The math is undeniable—better choices then would mean better circumstances now.
The prodigal took his ENTIRE inheritance and blew it ALL on prostitutes and parties—worst possible 'investment.' When he came home broke, the Father didn't hand him a budget worksheet—he gave him a RING, ROBE, and threw a PARTY with the fattened calf. Full provision IMMEDIATELY.
I REFUSE the lie that my provision depends on past investment wisdom. IT IS WRITTEN that my heavenly Father feeds birds who don't invest, and I am of MORE value than they. God's supply isn't based on my financial planning—it's based on HIS RICHES in glory. IT IS WRITTEN that my God SHALL supply ALL my need. The BARAK blessing means I am blessed coming in and going out, in the city and field, regardless of my portfolio. Like the Prodigal who wasted EVERYTHING and the Father STILL provided fully, my provision flows from COVENANT, not from compound interest.
Your Father isn't reviewing your investment history with disappointment—He's preparing provision that has nothing to do with what you saved and everything to do with who He IS. Right now He's supplying according to HIS riches, not your past wisdom.
