"I should have invested more in relationships when I had the chance. It's too late to fix it now."
How it sounds in your head: If I had known I'd end up here, I would have made different choices. I would have called more, visited more, forgiven faster, loved better. I spent too much time on things that didn't matter. Now the people are gone, the opportunities are past, and I can't go back. I'm stuck with the relational balance sheet I created, and it's showing a deficit I can't repair.
"So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten."
-- Joel 2:25Enemy condemnation using regret and hindsight to steal peace at the finish line, denying the finished work of the cross that redeems ALL things.
Hindsight reveals priorities that seem misallocated. Deceased loved ones cannot receive apologies or hear 'I love you' now. Time cannot be reclaimed. The finality of approaching death makes past choices feel permanently consequential.
A servant owed his master 10,000 talents—an impossible, unpayable debt equivalent to billions. He begged for time to 'pay it back,' which was laughable. The master didn't give him time—he FORGAVE the ENTIRE debt. Instantly. Completely. The slate was wiped clean, not through payment, but through mercy.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm stuck with an unfixable relational deficit. IT IS WRITTEN: God will RESTORE the years the locust has eaten. Every missed opportunity, every wasted moment, every relationship I wish I'd handled differently—He REDEEMS it ALL. The 10,000 talent debtor couldn't pay it back, so the master FORGAVE it completely. I am not arriving in eternity with regret—I am arriving RESTORED. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ, that there is NO condemnation. The BARAK blessing doesn't tally my mistakes—it COVERS them. I am not haunted by what I didn't do. I am CELEBRATED for being His daughter. Every person I'll see again will see me through the lens of JESUS, not my failures. I am DEBT-FREE.
The Father isn't showing you a highlight reel of your mistakes—He's preparing reunion with no regret, no awkwardness, no 'I wish I had.' When you see loved ones again, it will be through the lens of COMPLETE redemption. There will be no deficit. Only reunion, restoration, and endless time to love perfectly.
