"I should have been enough reason for them to stay together and try harder."
How it sounds in your head: Don't I matter enough? If they really loved me, wouldn't they fight for the family? I see other parents who work it out 'for the kids.' Apparently I'm not worth that effort. My existence isn't valuable enough to save the marriage. I'm not enough reason to try.
"Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me."
-- Isaiah 49:15-16Enemy's accusation that your value is measured by others' choices, plus shame that you're insufficient.
You know families who explicitly stayed together 'for the kids.' Your parents' potential split feels like direct evidence you're not valuable enough to be that motivating factor. Their actions speak louder than words about your worth.
Mephibosheth was dropped as a baby, crippled, forgotten by everyone who should have cared, hiding in obscurity convinced he was worthless. King David SEARCHED for him, restored him to royalty, gave him PERMANENT place at the king's table—his value was never about his ability or others' treatment; it was about COVENANT.
I REFUSE the lie that my value is measured by my parents' choices. IT IS WRITTEN that I am inscribed on God's palms and He will never forget me. My worth was established at the cross when Jesus traded His life for mine. I am under the BARAK covenant that makes me blessed regardless of how others perceive me. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. My parents' struggle is about THEIR brokenness, not my value. Like Mephibosheth who was forgotten by humans but SEARCHED FOR by the king, I am pursued by the King of Kings who has given me a permanent seat at His table. I am not too little to matter; I am SO valuable that heaven moved for me. I am ENOUGH because He says I am.
The Father doesn't measure your value by whether you're 'enough' to fix broken adults—He measures it by the blood of His Son, which He considered a FAIR TRADE for you. Like Mephibosheth who felt worthless but was royalty by covenant, you are not defined by who forgets you but by the King who SEARCHED for you and seated you at His table forever.
