"I should have accomplished more by now with my life."
How it sounds in your head: Look at what other men your age built—businesses, legacies, wealth. You're 85 and what do you have to show for it? You should have done more, been more, left more. You missed your chance to matter.
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
-- Ephesians 2:10Performance-based identity that measures worth by achievement rather than covenant, making rest impossible and every moment a test.
He compares his resume to others' highlight reels—men with buildings named after them, grandkids who inherited empires. His life feels ordinary, unremarkable, insufficient by comparison.
Accomplished absolutely nothing redemptive in his entire life—died a convicted criminal with zero legacy, zero achievements, zero good works. Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise'—fully accepted, fully saved, immediately.
I REFUSE the lie that I haven't accomplished enough. IT IS WRITTEN that I am God's workmanship, created for works He prepared BEFOREHAND—not works I manufacture to prove worth, but works He AUTHORED. My value isn't in comparison to other men; it's in CHRIST. The BARAK blessing doesn't depend on my productivity—it's mine by COVENANT. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 5:1 - 'Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.' I am not behind, not lacking, not insufficient. I am exactly where GRACE has placed me, and that is MORE than enough.
Your Father isn't reviewing your performance with disappointment—He's celebrating that you're HIS. He doesn't see missed opportunities; He sees a son He delights in, whose value was settled at the cross, not the career. You are His workmanship, His masterpiece.
