"I should accept poverty as God's will for my family."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this is just our lot. Maybe God wants some families rich and some poor, and fighting it is fighting Him. Maybe contentment means accepting we're the poor ones.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religion: Spiritualizes poverty as God's will, making people passive in the face of the curse Christ died to break.
Religious teaching about 'godly contentment' and 'blessed are the poor' has convinced him that wanting provision is somehow unspiritual. Surrender to poverty feels like surrender to God's will.
Abraham was called friend of God not because of poverty but while being 'very rich in livestock, silver, and gold.' God's blessing made him wealthy, and this wealth was part of the covenant promise passed to all who believe.
I REFUSE the lie that poverty is God's will for my family. IT IS WRITTEN that God's will is for me to PROSPER in all things - that's 3 John 1:2, not the prosperity gospel, but the BIBLE. Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life. Abraham was very rich and called friend of God. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 3:13-14 that Christ redeemed me from the CURSE to receive the BLESSING of Abraham. Poverty was the curse. Prosperity is the blessing. The BARAK includes being blessed in my storehouses, lending and not borrowing, head and not tail. I don't accept poverty as God's will - I accept CHRIST'S FINISHED WORK.
Your Father isn't asking you to embrace poverty as His will - He's asking you to embrace the BLESSING His Son died to give you. The same God who made Abraham very rich called him 'friend' - your wealth doesn't threaten your spirituality.
