"I need to toughen up and stop feeling things because men don't cry."
How it sounds in your head: Dad says 'be a man' when I cry. The other boys make fun of anyone who shows emotion. If I want to be strong, I have to shut down my feelings and never let anyone see me hurt.
"Jesus wept."
-- John 11:35Source: Religious and cultural masculinity teaching that equates emotional suppression with strength, directly contradicting Jesus who wept openly.
He receives constant messages from media, peers, and sometimes family that real men don't show vulnerability. Every tear feels like evidence of weakness.
King Josiah's heart was TENDER, and he wept before God when he heard the law. God responded, 'BECAUSE your heart was tender...I have heard you.' His sensitivity made him a great king.
I REFUSE the lie that I must suppress my emotions to be a man. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus wept—the strongest man who ever lived felt deeply and cried publicly. My emotions are not weakness; they are connection to my Father's heart. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 56:8 that God keeps my tears in a bottle because they're precious to Him. I am under the BARAK blessing—blessed in my emotional health, blessed in my authentic expression. My strength comes from CONNECTION to the Vine, not suppression of what I feel. Real men feel deeply BECAUSE they're made in God's image.
Your Father is running toward you, celebrating your tender heart as evidence you're like HIM. He's not asking you to toughen up—He's inviting you to feel freely like Jesus did.
