"I need to see some sign of change before I can have hope."
How it sounds in your head: Years of disappointment have made you cautious. You've gotten your hopes up before—thought they were turning around—only to be crushed again. You can't afford another emotional devastation. So you'll wait for evidence, something tangible, proof before you let yourself hope. Hope feels too dangerous now.
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
-- Hebrews 11:1Trauma-protection mechanism masquerading as wisdom, making hope conditional on sight.
Past disappointments have trained you that hope equals pain. Guarding your heart from hope feels like emotional survival, not unbelief.
Abraham was 100 years old, Sarah 90 and barren—physically impossible for conception. Zero evidence of change. Yet Romans 4:18 says he 'contrary to hope, in hope believed'—he hoped AGAINST natural hope, and Isaac came.
I REFUSE the lie that hope requires visible evidence. IT IS WRITTEN that faith is the EVIDENCE of things not seen—hope isn't irresponsible, it's the substance of faith. Abraham hoped AGAINST hope when his body was dead and Sarah's womb barren—and Isaac came. IT IS WRITTEN that hope does not disappoint because God's love is poured out in my heart. My hope isn't in my child's current choices; it's in the UNCHANGING God who calls things that are not as though they were. The BARAK blessing over my household is a COVENANT, not contingent on visible proof. I HOPE because God is faithful, not because circumstances cooperate. My hope is evidence that heaven is already moving.
The Father doesn't ask you to hope in your child's performance—He asks you to hope in His nature. That hope isn't denial; it's partnership with the God who resurrects dead things.
