"I need to protect my mom/dad emotionally because they're broken, making me the parent now."
How it sounds in your head: You can see the pain in their eyes. They're barely holding it together. If you add any burden, express any need, or pursue your own life, they might collapse. You have to be strong for them.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

You've watched them cry, watched them struggle. You're the most stable thing in their life right now. If you leave or focus on yourself, who will they have?
Joseph was favored while his father Jacob was still grieving Rachel's death and managing family chaos. Joseph didn't sacrifice his destiny to emotionally manage his father - he pursued his dreams, and God used that path to eventually SAVE the whole family.
I REFUSE the lie that I must be my parent's emotional savior. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus calls the heavy laden to HIM, not to me. I am the CHILD, not the parent. IT IS WRITTEN that His yoke is easy - carrying my parent's pain is NOT my assignment. I release them to the FATHER who actually CAN heal them. I honor them by being the son/daughter they need, not the therapist they want. Joseph pursued his destiny and God used it to SAVE his family. My freedom serves their future.
The Father is not asking you to hold your parent together - He's asking you to be 17, to dream, to live. He's got them, and your freedom might be the very thing that gives them permission to heal.
