"I must have secret sin blocking my breakthrough because faith without works is dead."
How it sounds in your head: James says faith without works is dead. I prayed but nothing happened, so there must be hidden sin I haven't confessed yet. God's waiting for me to get clean before He moves. I need to search my heart deeper.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religious twisting of James 2 to create performance anxiety, ignoring that works are FRUIT of salvation, not ROOT of answered prayer.
He's been taught God withholds blessings until behavior is perfect. When prayers seem unanswered, the default assumption is hidden sin instead of 'God is good and already moved at the cross.'
Samaritan woman living with a man not her husband—five failed marriages, active sexual sin. Jesus offered her LIVING WATER before she repented, revealing Himself as Messiah to a woman in blatant sin, and she became the first evangelist to her city THAT DAY.
I REFUSE the lie that hidden sin blocks God's breakthrough. IT IS WRITTEN that He forgave me ALL trespasses and nailed ALL requirements to the cross. I don't search my heart for hidden disqualifiers—I rest in the FINISHED work that qualified me forever. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The woman at the well got living water WHILE IN SIN. The prodigal got the robe WHILE SMELLING LIKE PIGS. I am righteous by HIS blood, not my behavior. The BARAK blessing protects me like it protected Abraham THE LIAR and Jacob THE DECEIVER. God isn't waiting—He already moved at Calvary.
The Father isn't playing hide-and-seek with secret sins that block His goodness. He's the one who said 'Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be WHITE AS SNOW'—past tense promise, not future threat.
