"I messed up too much this week. God won't listen to me until I get it together."
How it sounds in your head: I snapped at my mom, lied about homework, had mean thoughts about a girl at school. I know I should pray but it feels fake when I just sinned. I need to do better for a while before God will want to hear from me.
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

She feels the weight of recent failures and assumes she needs to prove improvement before approaching God. The older brother voice says she has to earn back the right to be heard.
The prodigal blew his inheritance on prostitutes and came home smelling like pig manure, planning to beg for servant status. The Father saw him 'a great way off' and RAN to him - embraced him while he still smelled like pigs - and threw a party within minutes, no cleanup period required.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to clean up before I can talk to God. IT IS WRITTEN to come BOLDLY to the throne of GRACE to obtain MERCY, which means I come FOR mercy, not after I've earned it! The prodigal came home covered in pig manure and his father ran to him, kissed him, and threw a party in fifteen minutes - no probation period. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL A SINNER, Christ died for me, which means He didn't wait for me to get better. I have the barak blessing not because of my perfect week but because of Jesus' perfect sacrifice. I come to Him messy because that's when I need Him most.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to have a good week before He'll listen. He's running toward you in your mess, ready to embrace you while you still smell like your failures, because He's a Father, not a performance evaluator.
