"I have to leave an inheritance to prove I was a good father and provider."
How it sounds in your head: You're running out of time to build something to leave behind. Your dad left you nothing, and you swore your kids wouldn't feel that. But the numbers aren't adding up. If you die without leaving them set up, you failed the one job that mattered - being a provider even after you're gone.
"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 4:19Performance-based identity making your worth dependent on bank statements instead of resting in the Father's provision for your children.
Every financial planning seminar says it. Every Christian money book preaches it. 'A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children.' You see it in Proverbs. The pressure to perform as provider doesn't end with retirement - it intensifies as the clock runs down.
Widow down to her last meal, preparing to feed her son and die. Elijah asked for bread first (seeming to take from her scarcity). She obeyed, and the oil and flour NEVER RAN OUT for years - God provided for her son completely independent of her ability to stockpile resources.
I REFUSE the lie that my worth as a father is measured by my estate planning. IT IS WRITTEN that God supplies ALL needs according to HIS riches in glory. I am a branch attached to the Vine - my job is connection, not production. My children are covered by the same BARAK blessing that protected Abraham's children, Isaac's children, Jacob's children - even when those fathers were LIARS and DECEIVERS. IT IS WRITTEN that God is a Father to the fatherless and provides for His children. I release the performance burden and rest in HIS provision for my kids.
Your Father isn't waiting to grade your life insurance policy before calling you a good dad. He's already proud of you - not for what you're leaving in the bank, but because you're His son and He delights in you, and that same delight covers your children regardless of your balance sheet.
