"I have to forgive them to move forward, but I can't."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone says 'you need to forgive.' But they don't know what they did. How it still affects me. Forgiving feels like saying it was okay. I'm stuck between bitterness and a standard I can't reach.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses."
-- Colossians 2:13Religion weaponizes forgiveness as works-requirement, trapping wounded in false prerequisite for healing.
Every sermon and self-help book presents forgiveness as THE key to breakthrough. Your inability to manufacture it feels like the obstacle between you and freedom, making the wound your fault.
Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery, ruined 13 years of his life, never truly repented. Joseph still fed them during famine, called their evil 'God's plan for good,' gave them land. Blessing flowed TO them through Joseph despite their evil—grace covered what forgiveness couldn't.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm stuck until I can forgive my parents. IT IS WRITTEN that God made me alive and forgave ALL my trespasses BEFORE I did anything. Forgiveness isn't my prerequisite—it's my GIFT. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, above not beneath. The BARAK doesn't wait for my perfect emotional processing. I am free NOW because Christ forgave. My healing isn't performance-based. I release the pressure to manufacture what only grace produces.
Your Father isn't waiting at the finish line of your forgiveness journey—He's running toward you IN the pain, healing you WHILE you're still angry, restoring you BEFORE you've 'processed it correctly.' The prodigal didn't forgive himself first. The father RAN anyway.
