"I have to forgive and let them back in, or I'm not being Christian."
How it sounds in your head: Church says forgive seventy times seven, turn the other cheek, love your enemies. If you don't let them back into your life, you're being unforgiving and bitter. Real Christians don't have boundaries—they just keep loving and trusting no matter what. Setting limits makes you the problem.
"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life."
-- Proverbs 4:23Religion weaponizes Scripture to guilt you into unsafe relationships, confusing forgiveness with foolish access.
You've heard countless sermons on forgiveness and probably been told boundaries are unloving. The guilt feels spiritually legitimate because it's wrapped in Bible verses taken out of context.
Nehemiah's enemies repeatedly invited him to 'meet and talk'—sounded reasonable, maybe even reconciliatory. Four times he refused, saying, 'I am doing a great work and cannot come down.' He set boundaries against people who wanted access to harm him, and God called it WISDOM, not unforgiveness.
I REFUSE the lie that forgiveness requires foolish access. IT IS WRITTEN to guard my heart with ALL diligence—that's a COMMAND, not a suggestion. Forgiveness means I release bitterness and trust God with justice; it does NOT mean I hand my heart back to someone who proved unsafe. Jesus forgave His enemies from the cross but didn't appoint them as disciples. I am NOT unloving for having boundaries; I am WISE. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the temple of the Holy Spirit, and I have the RIGHT and RESPONSIBILITY to guard what God has entrusted to me. The barak blessing includes divine PROTECTION, and sometimes protection looks like a closed door. I declare I can forgive fully and still say NO to unsafe access. I am FREE.
The Father is affirming, 'I'm not asking you to be a doormat—I'm asking you to be a DAUGHTER who knows her worth.' He's not disappointed in your boundaries; He's PROUD of your courage to protect the heart He's healing, just like Nehemiah protected the wall God was building.
