"I have to earn rest by being productive enough during the day"
How it sounds in your head: If you didn't finish everything on your list, you don't deserve to relax. You wasted time today scrolling, procrastinating. You can't rest in good conscience until you've actually accomplished something. Rest is a reward for productivity.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Performance-based religion contradicting grace-based rest in Christ
When you actually get stuff done, you sleep better. When you waste the day, you lie awake feeling guilty. It seems obvious that rest should be earned by being productive enough to deserve it.
Mephibosheth was crippled, hiding in fear, had done NOTHING to earn favor. David restored ALL of Saul's land to him and gave him a permanent place at the king's table—total provision based on COVENANT, not performance.
I REFUSE the lie that rest must be earned by productivity. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus gives rest to the WEARY and BURDENED, not the accomplished. My worth is not measured by my to-do list. The BARAK blessing over me includes rest as a GIFT, not a wage. IT IS WRITTEN that He gives His beloved sleep—beloved because of covenant, not because of performance. I am the righteousness of God in Christ whether I was productive today or not. My Father runs toward me with rest when I'm exhausted and unproductive, like the prodigal's father ran toward the son who WASTED everything. Rest is GRACE.
The Father sees you feeling guilty for resting after an 'unproductive' day and doesn't agree with the accusation. He's running toward you with rest like He gave Mephibosheth a seat at the table—based on COVENANT, not accomplishment.
