"I have to earn my place in heaven because grace sounds too easy."
How it sounds in your head: Surely there's something I need to DO—some level of goodness to achieve, some standard to meet. 'Just believe' can't be the whole answer. What about all my years of church attendance, my giving, my service? Doesn't that COUNT for something?
"And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work."
-- Romans 11:6Religious system that turned GIFT into WAGE and made the cross insufficient—the original lie of the Galatians that Paul called CURSED.
Nine decades of 'be good, do right, try harder' teaching has wired your brain to believe nothing is free. Grace sounds like a loophole, not legitimate theology.
Criminal being executed for actual crimes, mocked Jesus earlier that same day, zero good works, zero time to prove himself, zero religious credentials. Said 'Jesus, remember me' and got IMMEDIATE response: 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise'—full salvation with literally hours as a believer.
I REFUSE the lie that heaven is a wage I earn instead of a gift I receive. IT IS WRITTEN that if it's by grace, it's NO LONGER of works, otherwise grace isn't grace. My 90 years of church attendance didn't EARN salvation—Jesus' blood PURCHASED it. My good deeds didn't QUALIFY me—His righteousness was CREDITED to me as a gift. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 4:5 that God justifies the UNGODLY who does NOT work but believes. The thief got paradise in hours; I get it by the SAME grace, not superior effort. I am saved by HIS performance, not mine.
While you're mentally tallying your decades of service like a performance review, Father is saying 'Daughter, you're trying to PAY for what My Son already PURCHASED.' He's not impressed by your resume—He's delighted by your PRESENCE, running toward you with arms open, saying 'Welcome HOME, not because you earned it, but because you're MINE.'
