"I had to abandon my native language and culture to survive here."
How it sounds in your head: You buried your mother tongue to avoid mockery. Your grandchildren can't speak the language of your childhood. You're dying feeling like a traitor to your ancestors and a stranger to your roots.
"For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, that they all may call on the name of the Lord, to serve Him with one accord."
-- Zephaniah 3:9World: Forced assimilation and convinced you losing yourself was the price of belonging.
Every time you code-switched, every cultural practice you quietly stopped, every holiday you let fade—the grief accumulated. Your accent still surfaces when you're tired, a ghost of who you used to be.
Babylonians changed Daniel's name, language, and diet to erase his Hebrew identity. He kept his heart anchored in God, and God elevated him to rule over the very empire that tried to assimilate him—without losing who he was.
I REFUSE the lie that survival required erasing my culture. IT IS WRITTEN that God will restore a pure language—what was lost is being redeemed. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, INCLUDING the culture and tongue God wove into my identity. Heaven celebrates EVERY tribe and nation; my heritage is not shameful but SACRED. IT IS WRITTEN in Revelation 7:9 that people from every language will worship together—I don't have to shed my skin to belong. I declare: I am fully known, fully loved, and about to join a chorus that sings in every tongue.
The Father cherishes the language you whispered in childhood and the cultural rhythms you thought you had to bury. He's been preserving it in His heart, and Heaven's worship will sound like HOME to every part of you.
